BABYMETAL
JRock247 Interview
December 10, 2012
What led to the formation of BABYMETAL?
SU-METAL: We started working on BABYMETAL as members of the idol group Sakura Gakuin.
The concept of BABYMETAL is incredibly interesting and unique. What got you interested in heavy metal music, and are there any other bands that you would consider your influences?
MOAMETAL: Actually, none of us really knew about “metal” until we started BABYMETAL. But after we listened to “DOKI DOKI☆MORNING” we were like “What’s this?! …But it sounds fun!” and this is how we started to learn about metal music. Also, they’re not really an influence, but we respect Perfume, too.
The outfits you wear are also very beautiful and fashionable. Would you consider starting a BABYMETAL clothing line someday?
YUIMETAL: Our stylist made most of our dresses. It would be great if we could make our own clothing line one day. It’d be fun to be able to wear them with everyone.
If some of our readers wanted to cosplay as BABYMETAL, do you have any fashion tips for them?
SU-METAL: BABYMETAL’s theme colors are red and black. So if you wear some red or black frilly dresses, I think you’re good! If you want to cosplay SU, get a ponytail, and if you want to cosplay MOA & YUI, then do the pigtails.
How would you describe your live performances to those who have not seen you perform before?
MOAMETAL: When we have concerts, the Fox God descends to this world and takes over, so we don’t really remember, but we feel the strong sense of unity with everyone. We always try to challenge ourselves with new things.
What advice do you have for people who would be interested in seeing you in concert for the first time?
SU-METAL: We believe that one of the highlights of BABYMETAL is our live concerts. If you’re interested in us, please come see us live! We’re sure that you will discover something new!
What was your favorite part of making your new “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” music video?
YUIMETAL: We especially want you to watch the scene where MOA & I are having a guitar fight! It’s just air guitar, but we put a lot of effort into that, so make sure to watch that part!
