HYDE [INSIDE] LIVE 2025 WORLD TOUR kicked off its first night on June 21st at Zepp Haneda. After the 2024 release of his newest album in five years, HYDE [INSIDE], he set out on tours HYDE [INSIDE] LIVE 2024, HYDE [INSIDE] LIVE 2024 -EXTRA-, and HYDE [INSIDE] LIVE 2024 WORLD TOUR, traveling nationwide across Japan, alongside Asia and America. The newest installment, HYDE [INSIDE] LIVE 2025 WORLD TOUR, is a continuation expanding the show in a 5 month tour across not only Japan, but also South America, Asia, and Europe, making it his grandest scale world tour to date.
As the show began, a digital clock projected onto the stage’s black curtain read “16:66”, filling the room with shouts of delight as HYDE’s beloved devil’s number “666” was spotlighted. The curtain rose to reveal a theatrical stage set with classical decorations, reminiscent of a circus, and a tall podium in the middle of the stage. The band members made their way onto the stage, in their usual suspicious masks, before HYDE appeared at the podium, triggering an explosion of excitement from the crowd as he peeked out from the depths of his black hood, covered in a half-mask.
Opening the show was “LET IT OUT”, the first track on HYDE [INSIDE]. Growling out “Wake it up / Get it started now” in a low voice, HYDE spread his arms, moving his fingers and urging the crowd to “go crazy”. The audience answered in a sing-along with their fists high in the air.
“We’ve started this year again. Were you all waiting for me? Let’s let out everything you’ve built up inside here, today. We’re gonna go crazy together, Tokyo! Make this a fun night for me!”
After stepping off the podium HYDE dropped aggressive numbers “AFTER LIGHT” and “I GOT 666” back to back, calling out to the audience before bursting into “DEFEAT”. Making a 180 from its glamorous, jazzy intro, this song bared its fangs towards its listeners, devouring them as HYDE tore off his half-mask to the squeals of the crowd. During the hard and heavy “BLEEDING”, HYDE jumped on the large barrel on the stage left, putting his foot on the speaker as he roared out shouts. In “TAKING THEM DOWN”, HYDE leaned out into the floor from the stage, not backing down even as waves of crown surfers pushed towards him one after another.
Gently soothing the delirium with his piano’s sound, hico (Key.) played an eloquent keyboard solo as an interlude, renewing the mood of the venue, and amongst the solemn atmosphere started “Tokoshie”, a masterpiece in the midst of the craze on the stage that day. This was a self-cover of the song originally released as the ending theme for TV anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc under the name HYDE × MY FIRST STORY, and the band members were able to bring out a heavier band sound from the original.
“The break is over. There’s no stopping us now. Are you ready? We’re all gonna become one and go wild together!” declared HYDE. “Let me see your brains shaking!” he shouted as “6or9” started, and on command with the words “3, 2, 1”, the audience jumps from a crouch. Driven by forceful long shouts as he covered “Given Up” by Linkin Park, the audience went wild — from head banging to crowd surfing to moshing — but HYDE demanded “I want to see more chaos”, pushing the crowd with “SOCIAL VIRUS”. During “MIDNIGHT CELEBRATION II”, HYDE removed his shirt, poured fake blood on his head, and rampaged from one side of the stage to the next, dripping dark red everywhere.
“LAST SONG” followed, the only ballad on the album. To the lonesome piano melody, a thin voice came from HYDE’s lips. This song, soft at first, cheerful even, links with the isolated feelings of the lyrics’ protagonist as he slowly succumbs to lunacy. As red light shone and confetti fluttered down, he knelt on the stage, head covered in blood and bursting in intense emotions. HYDE’s soul crushing vocals and heartfelt performance might be the true embodiment of this work’s title itself, his “INSIDE” on display. When he fell to the ground and disappeared from view as the black curtains lowered, the audience was absolutely still for a moment. The applause and ovation to follow was deafening.
Once more, the curtain rose, but HYDE was nowhere to be seen. As the band members played, HYDE’s voice sang out “This feels unreal to me.” The room came to life as HYDE appeared up on the second floor. With a mic in one hand and a water gun in the other, HYDE made his way down the second-level aisles and fired shots at the excited audience.
After that, HYDE returned to the stage, introducing the new band member, miki (Ba.), who’s joining this tour. “I hope you’ll get along with him. All of my band members are so handsome. I’m not quite sure why we’ve got them all in masks haha,” he bragged to the audience, getting a big laugh. Going on, he talked about how he thought he would spend 2025 focusing on music production and wasn’t planning on doing too many shows, but before he realized it, between music fests and other things, the year was filled with live shows. “So I’m gonna make it a fun year for everyone. Will you join me for the ride?” he asked. “Well then, can you get a little crazy again?” he laughed, and launched into “Mugen”, released under the name MY FIRST STORY × HYDE, the opening theme for TV anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc, bringing the mood back up as the show rolled to a close. “Don’t leave any regrets! Come on, I’m about to go around the globe! This is day one, show me the good stuff!” said HYDE as he began the last number, “SEX BLOOD ROCK N’ ROLL”.
Expanding the world of HYDE [INSIDE] even further, the journey of HYDE [INSIDE] LIVE 2025 WORLD TOUR has only just begun.
