Case Closed Runner: Race for the Truth (Review)

Conan Edogawa is speeding toward the finish the line in a new 2D-racer mobile game from Bushiroad. Case Closed Runner: Race for the Truth is a colorful, fun treat of a game for fans of the Detective Conan (Case Closed) series.

Up-tempo jazz music, stylized visual backgrounds, and original character illustrations are right on the mark, and there’s a story mode that loosely ties in each racing level.

You won’t need your detective skills so much as ace timing and a quick pointer finger, since no decision making or strategy is involved in “solving” the mystery. Leveling up your characters will enhance their special powers to help you increase your score and defeat a variety of challenges.

You get a “partner” character as “backup”, so if you fall or hit an obstacle before the finish line, your backup character can come in to save the day, often at the cost of watching an in-game ad for other mobile franchises. For collector-players, there are plenty of cool variations on the franchise’s beloved cast that you can score from the gatcha system.

Case Closed Runner: Race for the Truth has an easy learning curve and no stressful inventory management to keep track of. It’s a fast and fun race you can pick up for a few minutes anytime when you need a quick break from your work day.
