Tokyo Jihen announced a surprise reunion on January 1 with a new digital single “Erabarezaru Kokumin”, along with a video teaser for the band’s upcoming Japan tour titled “Live Tour 2020 News Flash”.
The band formed by Sheena Ringo stopped formal activities back in 2012, but the musicians have collaborated frequently on Sheena’s solo projects. Ukigumo (guitar), Ichiyo Izawa (keyboards), Seiji Kameda (bass), and Toshiki Hata (drums) all get a shout out in the teaser video “BRAND NEW INCIDENTS ▶2020”. The video’s computer imagery and the “loading” icon of the single’s cover art both play on the 2013 Hard Disk box set’s theme of putting Tokyo Jihen’s work into digital storage.
