In October of 2023, Japan and the world lost a phenomenal and versatile vocalist, Atsushi Sakurai. Deeply mourning the loss of their vocalist, BUCK-TICK has made a significant yet subtle change to their name – adding an infinity symbol to replace the dash in BUCK-TICK.
This change is clearly featured in their most recent album, Subrosa, which was released on December 4. Subrosa marks a monumental moment for BUCK-TICK as this is their first album since the death of vocalist Atsushi Sakurai. BUCK-TICK’s Subrosa showcases guitarists Hide and Imai on lead vocals, so it appears that for now, the band has no intent of replacing their acclaimed singer.
In a recent interview with Pia, Hide commented on the fate of BUCK-TICK, “After Sakurai-san’s funeral, we all gathered and when we asked, ‘What’s going to happen with BUCK-TICK?’, the conclusion we came to was, “We continue.'” The band certainly shows no signs of stopping as BUCK-TICK continues to add tour dates to their upcoming 2025 tour, which begins in April. It may very well be that BUCK-TICK will continue into infinity.
