AKB48 Team K’s Yuko Oshima announced her graduation from the group during the broadcast of the 64th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen. After performing “Koisuru Fortune Cookie”, Oshima suddenly announced her graduation, “This will be my last time appearing on Kohaku like this. I will sing wholeheartedly.” The group then performed her center song “Heavy Rotation”.
Oshima hadn’t told the other members about her graduation before the announcement, and performers and audience members were shocked by the statement. Kouhaku hosts Arashi made comments that they couldn’t believe the news, and asked Oshima if she was graduating from being a performer altogether. Oshima replied that she will continue activities after leaving AKB48.
